Kingdom of AEthelmearc - Service Award

Open wide the gates and proclaim to all who might see or hear these words of our Sovereigns, Arnthor and Ceirich, King and Queen of Sylvan AEthelmearc. Know that a synod had assembled in the Noble Barony of the Rhydderich Hael, being a famous place that is called The Festival of the Passing of the Ice Dragon. At this place We have gathered our Nobles and Peers to hear of various matters and testimonies concerning Our Kingdom, most especially regarding Our Most Noble Order of the Pelican, not yet complete of it's full compliment. We asked our Knights, Laurels, Pelicans, MODs, and Royal Peers to consider necessary matters that had been handed down through tradition of the complete nature of the aforesaid Noble Order. At length it resulted from members of that same Order, that a request was made in the presence of all to invite Eleanore Godwin, Most Honorable Lady, forthwith. After this privilege had been read and examined among themselves, and many words had been spoken in the Presence of the aforesaid King and Queen, it was pleasing to all and they together declared that They were not able to find anything else so noble and so wisely formulated that was in accordance with the ancient traditions of the Kingdom. And agreeing that this stand and be confirmed by all, We, Arnthor and Ceirich, decree that Eleanore Godwin be at once inducted into the aforesaid Noble Order of the Pelican and prescribe to her all privileges and honors forthwith. Furthermore, do We Grant her Letters Patent, to wit, Or, on a cross formy throughout vert, an oil lamp argent. Done by Our Hands, the 25th day of March, AS 57, so that in all things the honor and authority and security of the Kingdom of AEthelmearc be denied by no person.

Kingdom of AEthelmearc - Fleur de AEthelmearc

Right trusty and well-beloved Jane Arden, We greet you well. Letting you wit that having heard the council of Lords, Ladies, and Nobles in regard to the quality of dress making, stitching, sewing, research, teaching, and other such sundry skills which you hath shown pertaining to the arts of Tudor clothing. Such were We moved by the words We have heard and the garb that We have seen that We, on this 12th day of November, AS57, give you joyful news; to wit, induct you into the Most Noble Order of the Fleur d'AEthelmearc. And forasmuch, as touching upon your rank within Our Court, do also Grant you the following Arms that you and only you shall wear by your leave: Argent, three maple leaves gules, on a chief wavy azure three New World dogwood blossoms argent. These Words, affirmed by Our Right as Sylvan Sovereigns, have been pleasantly written at length and read into Our Court at Our Parliament of the Arts and Sciences at AEthelmearc AEcademy. So say Arnthor, King, and Ceirech, Queen.

Ice Dragon 2023 part 2

After Ice Dragon report.

 
After a year of mad cheese science, it is done. The Edam Muenster has been slain. The fight was long, and we almost Adelost, but at the end, there was nothing left but de Brie. Many did not want to engage in violence but only did so for the greater Gouda. I couldn't have done it Provolone. Only three of its offspring survived, but they were captured and Feta'd in chains; they had no Chaource but to surrender. I will no longer engage in mad cheese science in Queso a new Muenster is created. This is the Whey.

It was a good day. 

My Mad Cheese Science project was entered into the Ice Dragon Grand Penthalon:

Applied Research: The overall work.
Literary Work: The main documentation and the poem that I created based on my recipe. (two entries)
Culinary Arts: Baking a butt-load of the cheese tarts.
Scribal Arts: My poem calligraphed on pergamenta in a hand similar to the hand used to write the original source.
Performance Arts: Me reciting my poem for the judges who will be standing in for the kitchen staff who might have heard the master chef recite it.

I won the categories of Applied Research, Literary Work, and Performance Arts.

And, I came in third place in the overall Pent. 

Plus, I received some great constructive criticism. From, suggestions how to make the coffins better to "You wrote your poem in rhyming couplets: did you realize that the examples are in the format of A-B-A-B-A?" 

No. No I did not. 

We live and learn.  

Ice Dragon Pent 2023

 What an over achiever does.

I have spent the last year working on what I've been calling Mad Cheese Science. But I am done with the documentation.

The last year has been a deep dive into a single recipe in a 15 century rhyming cookbook. All of this was the Ice Dragon Arts and Science Pentathalon:  a large A&S competition that haa multiple categories. The Pent portion is for people who enter five or more of the major categories. There has been a running joke, since I've been in the Barony, that someone could create a single item that is a Pent project it on itself. My Mad Cheese Science is that item. I have done the following for the following categories:

Applied Research: The overall work.

Literary Work: The main documentation and the poem that I created based on my recipe. (two entries)

Culinary Arts: Baking a butt-load of the cheese tarts.

Scribal Arts: My poem calligraphed on pergamenta in a hand similar to the hand used to write the original source.

Performance Arts: Me reciting my poem for the judges who will be standing in for the kitchen staff who might have heard the master chef recite it.

My documentation has been submitted to the Pent coordinator and I have everything printed out and ready to go, with a couple of weeks to spare. All I need to do is bake up the tarts, which I will do the week of the event, so that they don't sit too long in the fridge.

It is now in the hands of the judges (who will be reading through the main documentation prior to the event).

I will publish my documentation after the event. While I would love to win the Pent, I would love to come in 2nd place even more, since one of the things on my bucket list is to win one of my own scrolls. 

This was a fun project to do: I learned a lot, discovered a lot of new rabbit holes, and managed to get friends excited about cheese tarts. The goal is not to win; the goal is to inspire others. I hope that once the judging is complete, my research can inspire others to leap down the rabbit hole on their own journeys to something weird.

To the nobles and commons within seeing or hearing of these words, it is our wish and desire to recognize your noble skill of fencing; said skill with the sword did impress our eyes and so moved hand to paper and name you the winner of the Ice Dragon Rapier Bear Pit competition, held on the 25th day of March, AS 57, in the Barony of Rhydderich Hael, at Festival of the Passing of the Ice Dragon.

Listen to these greetings from Magnus and Thalia to all and singular as well as to Nobles, Gentles, and others to whom these presents shall come. The foundations of all true learning must be laid in study; marked by a broad spirit; accurate scholarship; and careful attention to details. We are well moved by the works of {________________________} and are pleased to name them as the runner up of the Ice Dragon Pentathalon, this 25nd day of March, AS57, in the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael. Let these letters provide proof of our words thus shall no one deny their accomplishments.
